3.116 Rotate and/or Mirror Page

Updated on

In this article, you will learn

  • which prerequisites are required for this Fixup, and
  • how to apply the Fixup.

1. Introduction

The Fixup Rotate and/or Mirror Page is available in the Workflow. The purpose of this Fixup is to rotate and/or flip pages clockwise or counterclockwise in 90Β° increments.

2. General

The purpose of this Fixup is to rotate or mirror all pages, even pages, or odd pages of a multipage Print Item or Article.

You can find this Fixup in the footer of the sections Document Information and User–defined Fields under the Fixup group Rotate and Mirror for Articles, Production Jobs, and Orders, or under the tab Data Preparation.

3. Description

With this Fixup, a single Print Item or all pages of a print file can be rotated and/or mirrored.  Additionally, you can apply rotation or mirroring to every second page, or to only the odd or even pages of a multipage print file.

If you only want to rotate or mirror the entire Print Item, select No Rotation under the option Rotate or No Mirroring under the option Mirror.

3.1. Prerequisites and Functionality

For this Fixup to perform as intended, the following requirements must be met:

  • The print file can be single-page or multipage.
  • The print file is available in the current rotation – i.e., no rotation factor has been applied to the page; the page is only rotated for display purposes.

For Rotating and/or Mirroring Page select from the following options:

  • Templates [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a template and applied to other Articles/Print Items, as well as used within Fixup Chains and in the Operations Apply Fixups and Check Print Item and Apply Fixups.

3.1.1. Rotate

To rotate a Print Item, select from the following two options:

  • Rotate [2] – use this option to specify the rotation angle (in degrees) for the Print Item. The following options are available:
    • No rotation – the Print Item is not rotated.
    • 180Β° – rotates the Print Item 180Β°.
    • 90Β° counterclockwise – rotates the Print Item 90Β° to the left.
    • 90Β° clockwise – rotates the Print Item 90Β° to the right.
    • 0Β° (Apply page rotation parameter only) – removes the current display rotation of the Print Item. Note that PDFs in Acrobat Pro can have a rotation of 90Β°, 180Β° and 270Β°, which only affects display in Acrobat Pro; the Print Item itself is not rotated. By default, when a Print Item is uploaded to the Workflow, the display rotation is removed and set to 0Β°.
    • Variable Content [6] – for Variable Content [6], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the rotation should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field to execute the rotation:
      • None_Rotate
      • 180
      • 270
      • 90
      • ApplyPageRotateOnly
  • Apply to [3] – The section Apply to is located directly below the dropdown list Rotate, determines which pages the rotation is applied to. This allows individual Print Items to be rotated and mirrored selectively. The following options are available:
    • All Pages – applies the value selected in the dropdown Rotate to all pages.
    • Even Pages – applies the value selected in the dropdown Rotate to all even pages. Note that the option does not refer to the pagination in the document, but in this case to every second page starting from page 2.
    • Odd pages – applies the value selected in the dropdown Rotate to all odd pages. Note that the option does not refer to the pagination in the document, but in this case to every second page starting with page 1.
    • Variable Content [7] – for Variable Content [7], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the rotation should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field to execute the rotation:
      • Always
      • Even
      • Odd

3.1.2. Mirror

To mirror a Print Item, select from the following two options:

  • Mirror [4] – determines the axis around which the Print Item will be mirrored. The available options are:
    • No Mirroring – the Print Item is not mirrored.
    • Horizontally – mirrors the Print Item along the horizontal axis (i.e., around the vertical axis).
    • Vertically – mirrors the Print Item along the vertical axis (i.e., around the horizontal axis).
    • Variable Content [7] – for Variable Content [7], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the mirroring should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field to execute the mirroring:
      • Non_Flip
      • Horizontally
      • Vertically
  • Apply to [5] – the entry in the selection list only affects mirroring, which means that rotating and mirroring can be applied to individual pages independently of each other. The following selection options are available:
    • All Pages – applies the value selected in the dropdown Mirror to all pages.
    • Even Pages – applies the value selected in the dropdown Mirror to all even pages. Note that the option does not refer to the pagination in the document, but in this case to every second page starting from page 2.
    • Odd pages – applies the value selected in the Mirror dropdown. Note that the option does not refer to the pagination in the document, but in this case to every second page starting with page 1.
    • Variable Content [8] – for Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the mirroring should be retrieved. The following value must be present in the selected field to execute the mirroring:
      • Always
      • Even
      • Odd

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Irregular_Shape_Start.pdf". The following outcomes can be achieved using the two functions in this Fixup:

When the entry 90Β° clockwise is selected under the option Rotate, the print file "Irregular_Shape_Rotate.pdf" is created. The selected settings will produce the following result:

When the entry Horizontal is selected under the option Mirror, the print file "Irregular_Shape_Mirroring.pdf" is created. The selected settings will produce the following result:
