In this article, you will learn
- which prerequisites must be met for this Fixup, and
- how to apply this Fixup.
1. Introduction
The Fixup Add a Dieline for defined Text is available in the $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW application. The purpose of this Fixup is to add a Dieline around specific text – such as a label.
2. General
The Fixup Add a Dieline for defined Text can be used to generate a Dieline around selected text. This allows, for example, a label to be cut out separately using the cutter device and subsequently attached to the back of the Print Item.
You can find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:
- entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
- enabling the Color option in the Category area,
- enabling the Create option in the Action area,
- enabling the Spot Color and Dieline options in the Property area.
3. Description
This Fixup can be used to generate a Dieline around defined text. The Dieline corresponds to the size of the text frame. The operation can be prevented if a Dieline already exists.
3.1. Prerequisites and Functionality
For the Fixup to work as intended, the following condition must be met:
- The file contains text objects.
Figure 1: The dialog of the Add a Dieline for defined Text Fixup
To generate a Dieline for the text, the following options can be selected:
- Template [1] – the settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a Template and therefore applied to other Articles/Print Items, used within Fixup Chains and applied in the Apply Fixups and Check Print Item and Apply Fixups Operations.
- Skip generation of the Dieline if a Dieline already exists [2] – when this option is enabled, the Dieline will not be generated if a Dieline already exists for the selected Spot Color.
- Text [3] – enter the text for which a Dieline is to be generated. For Variable Content [9], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the text should be retrieved.
- Font Size [4] – enter the font size of the text to be searched for. For Variable Content [5], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the font size should be retrieved.
- Font [10] – select the font used for the text from the drop-down menu.
- Spot Color Name [6] – select the Spot Color to be used for the Dieline to be generated from the drop-down menu.
- Stroke Width [7] – enter the desired stroke width for the Dieline to be generated. For Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the stroke width should be retrieved.
- Offset [11] – enter the offset for the Dieline to be generated. For Variable Content [12], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the offset should be retrieved.
3.2. Before/After
To experiment with this function, you can use the sample file "Sample_Add Dieline for Text.pdf". In this file, a Dieline is generated for the text using the Fixup "Add a Dieline for defined Text".
After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Add Dieline for Text_End.pdf" is created. In this file, a Dieline has been generated around the text. The values shown in Figure 1 were used for this purpose.
