Updated on

In this article, you will learn

  • which prerequisites must be met for this Fixup, and
  • how to apply the Fixup.

1. Introduction

The $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW application provides the Add a Second Dieline Fixup. The purpose of this Fixup is to add an additional Dieline to the Print Item.

2. General

The Add a Second Dieline Fixup can be used to add another Dieline to the Print Item at the specified offset from the original Dieline.

You can find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • enabling the Object option in the Category area,
  • enabling the Add option in the Action area,
  • enabling the Dieline or Spot Color option in the Property area.

3. Description

This Fixup can be used to create an additional overprinting Dieline and to rename the existing Dieline.

3.1. Prerequisites and Functionality

For the Fixup to perform as intended, the following condition must be met:

  • A Dieline already exists in the Print Item.

The Add a Second Dieline Fixup consists of two individual Fixups that have been combined into a single dialog. You can enable selected Fixups and thereby execute them.

The individual Fixups are described in detail below:

3.1.1. Additional Dieline

This Fixup is enabled by default, as indicated by the enabled checkbox [1]. This Fixup adds an overprinting Dieline at the specified offset, based on the original Dieline.

To create an additional Dieline, the following options are available:

  • Skip creation if Dieline already exists [3] – enable this option to prevent the creation of a Dieline that already exists – for example, if a Dieline named "Dieline" already exists and "Dieline" is selected again as the additional Dieline.
  • Dieline [4] – select the Dieline that already exists in the Print Item from the drop-down menu. The additional Dieline is created based on this Dieline at the specified offset. All Technical Spot Colors contained in the Print Item are available for selection.
  • Spot Color Name [5] – select the Spot Color to be used to create the additional Dieline from the drop-down menu. All Technical Spot Colors assigned to the Cut Contour type are available for selection.
  • Stroke Width [6] – enter the desired stroke width for the Dieline to be created. For Variable Content [9], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the stroke width should be retrieved.
  • Offset [7] – enter the desired offset of the Dieline to be created relative to the existing Dieline. For Variable Content [10], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the offset should be retrieved.
  • Line Shape [8] – select the line shape for the Dieline to be created from the drop-down menu.

3.1.2. Rename Dieline

Click the checkbox [2] (Figure 1) to enable the Rename Dieline Fixup. This allows the existing Dieline in the file to be renamed.

Renaming is Performed Afterwards

Please note that the additional Dieline is created first and the original Dieline is renamed afterwards. Therefore, the additional Dieline cannot be created using the same Technical Spot Color as the original Dieline in the file.

To rename the existing Dieline, the following option is available:

New Spot Color Name [11] – select a new Spot Color Name for the existing Spot Color from the drop-down menu. All system-wide defined Spot Colors assigned to the Cut Contour type are available for selection.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, you can use the sample file "Sample_Add Second Dieline.pdf". A Kiss Cut has been placed around the Print Item. An additional Dieline is now to be added at a distance of 3 mm.

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Add Second Dieline_End.pdf" is created. In this file, an additional Dieline has been added at an offset of 3 mm. The values shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3 were used.
