3.13 Add Crop Marks

1. Introduction

The Fixup Add Crop Marks is available in the Workflow. The purpose of this Fixup is to add Crop Marks and/or Bleed Marks for the Print Item.

2. General

The Fixup Add Crop Marks can be used to add Crop Marks to the TrimBox and/or Bleed marks to the BleedBox.

You can find this Fixup on the tab Data Preparation of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the area Filter,
  • activating the option Object in the area Category,
  • activating the option Add in the area Action,
  • activating the option Crop Marks in the area Property.

The Fixup Add Crop Marks can be used to add Crop Marks to the TrimBox and/or Bleed marks to the BleedBox.

Find the Fixup in the tab Data Preparation of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the area Filter,
  • activating the option Object in the area Category,
  • activating the option Add in the area Action,
  • activating the option Crop Marks in the area Property.

3. Description

Use this Fixup to create Crop Marks for a file. The Crop Marks are placed on the TrimBox and/or the Bleed Marks are placed on the BleedBox. The marks can be placed on a separate layer so that they can be hidden more quickly at a later time.

3.1. Prerequisites and Functionality

For the Fixup to perform as intended, the following requirements must be met:

  • There are no Crop Marks or Bleed marks in the file.
  • The TrimBox and BleedBox have been created in the correct position in the print file.

The Fixup Add Crop Marks consists of three individual Fixups that have been combined in one dialog. It is possible to activate selected Fixups and execute them.

The individual Fixups are described in detail below:

3.1.1. Add Crop Marks

This Fixup is activated by default, which is indicated by the checkbox [1]. This Fixup adds Crop Marks that are set to the TrimBox.

To create the Crop Marks you can choose from the following options:

  • Weight [4] – enter the desired weight for the Crop Marks here. For Variable Content [7], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the weight should be retrieved.
  • Length [5] – enter the desired length for the Crop Marks here. For Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the length should be retrieved.
  • Offset [6] – enter the desired offset of the Crop Marks to the TrimBox here. For Variable Content [9], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the offset should be retrieved.

3.1.2. Add Bleed Marks

Click the checkbox [2] (Figure 1) to activate the Fixup Add Bleed Marks. This Fixup is used to add Bleed Marks that are placed on the BleedBox.

Choose from the following options to create Bleed marks:

  • Weight [10] – enter the desired weight of the Bleed mark here. For Variable Content [13], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the weight should be retrieved.
  • Length [11] – enter the desired length of the Bleed mark here. For Variable Content [14], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the length should be retrieved.
  • Offset [12] – enter the desired offset of the Bleed mark here. For Variable Content [15], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the offset of the BleedBox should be retrieved.

3.1.3. Add Layer

This Fixup is activated by default, which is indicated by the checkbox [13] (Figure 1) . This Fixup is used to place the Crop Marks and Bleed Marks on a separate layer with a defined layer name.

The following options are available to place the Crop Marks or Bleed marks on a layer:

  • Layer Name [16] – enter the name of the Layer on which the new Dieline should be created. If you do not want to create a separate Layer, simply deactivate the Fixup. For the Variable Content [17] – for the Variable Content [17], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the layer name should be retrieved.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Add Crop Marks.pdf". In the outcome Crop Marks and Bleed marks should be added to the file.

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Add Crop Marks_End.pdf" is created. Both Crop Marks and Bleed marks have been added here. The marks were placed on the layer "print marks". The values from Figures 2, 3 and 4 were used.
