3.21 Add Wind Slits

Updated on

In this article, you will learn

  • which prerequisites must be met for this Fixup, and
  • how to apply this Fixup.

1. Introduction

The $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW application provides the Add Wind Slits Fixup. The purpose of this Fixup is to create a grid of wind slits in the specified size with a defined number of columns and rows.

2. General

The Add Wind Slits Fixup can be used to create a grid of wind slits. The grid can be defined by specifying the number of columns and rows. By entering the Offset values for the top, bottom, left and right, you can define the positions of the upper-left and lower-right wind slits.

You can find this Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • enabling the LFP option in the Category area,
  • enabling the Add option in the Action area,
  • enabling the Wind Slits option in the Property area.

3. Description

For the Fixup to work as intended, no special conditions need to be met.

The following options are available for adding wind slits:

  • Templates [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a template and subsequently applied to other Articles/Print Items, used within Fixup Chains, and used in the  Apply Fixups and Check Print Item and Apply Fixups operations.
  • Number of Columns [2] – enter the desired number of wind slits in the horizontal direction. For the Variable Content [3], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the number of columns should be retrieved.
  • Number of Rows [9] – enter the desired number of wind slits in the vertical direction. For the Variable Content [10], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the number of rows should be retrieved.
  • Offset [4] – specify how far the topmost/bottommost and leftmost/rightmost wind slits should be positioned from the edge (ImageBox). The created wind slit is centered on the respective position. For example, if an offset of 100 mm is entered, the center of the corresponding wind slit is positioned at this point. The top edge of the wind slit is therefore located 50 mm from the edge. When the lock icon is closed, the value is applied to all sides or both directions. Open it to set the values individually. For the Variable Content [11], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value of the offset should be retrieved.
  • Diameter [5] – enter the desired vertical and/or horizontal diameter of the wind slit to be created. When the lock icon is closed, the value is applied to all sides or both directions. Open it to set the values individually. For the Variable Content [12], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the diameter should be retrieved.
  • Spot Color Name [6] – select the desired Spot Color to be used for creating the wind slit. All system-wide defined Spot Colors are available.
  • Stroke Width [7] – enter the desired stroke width for creating the wind slits. For the Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the stroke width should be retrieved.
  • Rotate [13] – select the desired rotation for the wind slits from the drop-down menu. The following options are available:
    • 180° – the wind slit is rotated by 180°. The curved section of the wind slits therefore points to the right.
    • 90° counterclockwise – the wind slit is rotated by 90° counterclockwise. The curved section of the wind slits therefore points downward.
    • 90° clockwise – the wind slit is rotated by 90° clockwise. The curved section of the wind slits therefore points upward.
    • 0° (Apply page rotation parameter only) – the wind slit is not additionally rotated. The curved section of the wind slits therefore points to the left.
    • Variable Content [14] – select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the rotation should be retrieved. The selected field must contain one of the following values for the corresponding option to be applied:
      • 180
      • 270
      • 90
      • ApplyPageRotateOnly

4. Before/After

To experiment with this function, you can use the sample file "Sample_Add Wind Slits.pdf". The file has a size of 1000 x 1000 mm and a Bleed of 10 mm. Nine wind slits are to be created in this print file.

After applying the Fixup, the resulting file is "Sample_Add Wind Slits_End.pdf", in which the wind slits have been created. The values shown in Figure 1 were used for this purpose.
