  • which prerequisites are required for this Fixup, and
  • how to apply this Fixup.

1. Introduction

The Fixup Dye Background is available in the Workflow. The purpose of this Fixup is to dye the background in a selected color in CMYK or in a Spot Color.

2. General

The Fixup Dye Background can be used to dye the background of a Print Item in a desired color. The background can be colored either as a CYMK color or as a Spot Color.

You can find this Fixup on the tab Data Preparation of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the area Filter,
  • activating the option Color in the area Category,
  • activating the option Add and Fill in the area Action,
  • activating the option Background in the area Property.

3. Description

With this Fixup the background of a Print Item can be dyed in a desired color. Create the selected background in CMYK or as a Spot Color. If the background is created as a Spot Color it is also possible to enter the opacity of the background.

3.1. Before/After

For the Fixup to perform as intended, the following requirements must be met:

  • The Print Item can have alpha masks.
  • The Print Item does not have a background – e.g., is transparent.

The following options can be used to dye the background:

  • Color Definition [1] – enter the desired CMYK color values for the background.
  • Define as a Spot Color [2] – by activating this option the background color is created as Spot Color with CMYK alternative color values.
  • Spot Color Name [3] – enter the name of the Spot Color here if the background should be created as a Spot Color. For Variable Content [5], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the Spot Color name should be retrieved.
  • Tint Value [4] – select the opacity of the Spot Color by moving the slider or entering the percentage value.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_dye background.pdf". The file shows a flower with a bumblebee. The flower and bumblebee are on a transparent background.

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_dye background_End.pdf" is created, in which the background was dyed with the values from Figure 1.
