3.62 Derive a PageBox from Colored Objects

1. Introduction

The Fixup Derive PageBox from Colored Objects is available in the Workflow. The purpose of this Fixup is to place the selected PageBox on the surrounding area of all vector objects that are found for the entered color.

2. General

The Fixup Derive PageBox from Colored Objects can be used to set a selected PageBox to the enclosing rectangle of all objects that have the desired CMYK color value.

Use this Fixup for the following purposes:

  • Setting the TrimBox to a cutting area that was created in 100% magenta in the print file.
  • Setting the MediaBox or CropBox to the outer edge of manually drawn crop marks in a print file.

You can find this Fixup on the tab Data Preparation of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the area Filter,
  • activating the option PageBox in the area Category,
  • activating the option Create in the area Action,
  • activating the option TrimBox, BleedBox, CropBox or MediaBox or CMYK in the area Property.

3. Description

This Fixup can be used to derive a selected PageBox from entered color values. The box is set to the enclosing rectangle of the found vector objects.

Values are Rounded!

The Fixup traces color objects in the background in order to subsequently place the desired box. Due to the fact that those values must be rounded, slight deviations may occur in some cases when placing the PageBoxes.

3.1. Prerequisites and Functionality

For the Fixup to perform as intended, the following requirement must be met:

  • The file contains CMYK vector objects.

Select the following options to derive a PageBox from colored objects:

  • PageBox [1] – select the desired PageBox that should be derived from colored objects in the selection menu. The following options are available:
    • TrimBox – the TrimBox is placed on the enclosing rectangle of all found vector objects.
  • BleedBox – the BleedBox is placed on the enclosing rectangle of all found vector objects.
    • MediaBox – the MediaBox is placed on the enclosing rectangle of all found vector objects.
    • CropBox – the CropBox is placed on the enclosing rectangle of all found vector objects.
    • Variable Content [4] – for Variable Content [4], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the PageBox selection should be retrieved. The following values must be present in the selected field so that the selection is executed:
      • TrimBox
  • BleedBox
    • MediaBox
    • CropBox
  • CMYK color picker [2] – enter the desired CMYK color values from which the PageBox should be derived. The entered color is displayed in the preview image.
  • Offset [3] – enter the desired Offset for Top, Bottom, Left and Right for the selected PageBox here. In case the offset differs first unlock the lock symbol. For Variable Content [5], select the desired placeholder – Database Field or User-defined Field – from which the value for the Offset should be retrieved.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this function, refer to the sample file "Sample_Derive PageBox from Colored Objects.pdf". The file has a size of 200 x 200 mm. All PageBoxes have this size. The TrimBox should be derived from the background colors (CMYK 30/25/25/5).

After applying the Fixup, the file "Sample_Derive PageBox from Colored Objects_End.pdf" is generated. The TrimBox was derived from the background color. The values from Figure 1 were used.
