1. Introduction
The Fixup Crop Print Item to defined Size is available in the Workflow. The purpose of this Fixup is to crop the Print Item to a specified size.
2. General
The Fixup Crop Print Item to defined Size can be used to crop a Print Item to the desired size. Additionally, a Bleed and an Offset can be specified.
You can find this Fixup in the tab Data Preparation of an Article, Order, or Production Job by:
- Entering the name of the Fixup in the field Filter,
- Activating the option Page Box in the section Category,
- Activating the options Change and Crop in the section Action,
- Activating the option MediaBox, CropBox, BleedBox or TrimBox in the section Property.
3. Description
This Fixup allows you to crop the Print Item to the defined size. Overlapping image data and overlapping vector objects can be removed as part of the Fixup. Additionally, the user can generate a Preview image of the cropped Print Item.
3.1. Requirements and Functionality
No special requirement need to be met for this Fixup to function as intended.

To crop a Print Item to a defined size, the following options can be selected:
- Templates [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as templates and thus applied to other Articles/Print Items as well as used in the Operation Apply Fixups.

Position [2] – select from the dropdown menu the reference position from which the following values are specified. The following options are available:
- ImageBox – the Print Item is cropped starting from the ImageBox. Ensure that the ImageBox is set to the desired Page Box.
- ImageBox + Bleed – the Print Item is cropped starting from the size of the ImageBox + Bleed. Note that the Bleed refers to the Expected Bleed. Make sure the expected Bleed matches the actual Bleed of the file.

Variable Content [3] – select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the position should be taken. The following values must be present in the selected field for the position to be selected:

Starting point [14] – select from the dropdown menu the point from which the Print Item should be cropped. The following options are available:
- Center – the cropped Print Item is created from the center point of the original file.
- Upper Left Corner – the cropped Print Item is created from the top left corner of the original file.
- Upper Right Corner – the cropped Print Item is created starting from the upper right corner of the original file.
- Lower Left Corner – the cropped Print Item is created starting from the lower left corner of the original file.
- Lower Right Corner – the cropped Print Item is created starting from the lower right corner of the original file.

Variable Content [15] – select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the starting point should be retrieved. The following values must be present in the selected field for the starting value to be selected:
Center
UpperLeft
UpperRight
LowerLeft
LowerRight
- Width [4] – enter the desired width to which the Print Item should be cropped. For Variable Content [5], select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the width should be retrieved.
- Height [16] – enter the desired height to which the Print Item should be cropped. For Variable Content [17], select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the height should be retrieved.
- X-Offset [6] – enter the desired X-Offset here. Positive (+) values shift the crop area to the right from the starting point, negative (-) values shift it to the left. For Variable Content [7], select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the X-Offset should be retrieved.
- Y-Offset [18] – enter the desired Y-Offset here. Positive (+) values shift the crop area upward from the starting point, negative (-) values shift it downward. For the Variable Content [19], select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the Y-Offset should be retrieved.
- Bleed [8] – enter the Bleed to be maintained for each side – top, bottom, left, and right. For Variable Content [9], select the desired placeholder – database field or user-defined field – from which the value for the Bleed of the respective page should be retrieved.
- Remove overlapping Images [10] – activate this option if you want to remove overlapping image data created by cropping the file.
- Remove overlapping Vector Paths [20] – activate this option if you want to remove overlapping vector paths created by cropping the file.

Create Preview [11] – activate this option if a Preview Image of the cropped Print Item should be generated. The generated image can be found in the tab Extras after executing the Fixup. When this option is enabled, the following additional options become available:
- Resolution [12] – enter the desired resolution for the preview in dpi.

Color Space [13] – select the color space for the Preview Image. The following options are available:
- RGB – the Preview Image will be generated in RGB.
- Grayscale – the Preview Image will be generated in grayscale.

File Type [21] – select the file type for the Preview Image. The following options are available:
JPEG
PNG
TIFF
PDF

4. Before/After
To experiment with this function, you can use the sample file «Sample_Crop Print Item to defined Size.pdf». The file has a size of 100 x 200 mm and is to be cropped to 100 x 100 mm.
After applying the Fixup, the file «Sample_Crop Print Item to defined Size_End.pdf» is created, where the Print Item has been cropped to 100 x 100 mm. The values from Figure 1 were used for this.
