1.46 Redye CMYK Objects

Updated on

Learn in this article,

  • which requirements must be met for this Fixup and
  • how to apply the Fixup.

1. Introduction

The Fixup Redye CMYK Objects is available in the Workflow. This Fixup aims to redye found CMYK objects and change the appearance of the Print Item.

2. General

The Fixup Redye CMYK Objects can be used to redye CMYK objects. Thereby, e.g. a classic black can be converted to Rich Black which results in the objects being printed in a "darker" black.

Find the Fixup in the Data Preparation tab of an Article, Order or Production Job by:

  • entering the name of the Fixup in the Filter area,
  • activating the option Color in the Category area,
  • activating the option Change in the Action area,
  • activating the option CMYK, Spot Color as well as Vectors in the Search area.

3. Description

This Fixup can be used to redye the desired CMYK values. If the redye should be restricted to certain object types, this can be done by selecting the desired object type.

3.1. Requirements and Functionality

For the Fixup to do what it promises, the following conditions must be met:

  • The file contains vectors or texts that are colored with CMYK.

Figure 1: The dialog of the Fixup Redye CMYK Objects

To redye fills or strokes as well as text the following options can be selected:

  • Template [1] – settings selected in the dialog can be saved as a template and applied to other Articles/Print Items, as well as used in the operation Apply Fixups.
  • Apply to [2] – select in the selection menu which object types should be affected. The following options are available:
    • Text – all texts of the original color are redyed.
    • Vector – all vectors of the source color are redyed.
    • Text and Vectors – All texts and vectors of the original color are redyed.
    • Variable Content [6] – select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the selection of object types should be retrieved. The following values must be found in the selected field so that the selection can be created:
      • Text
      • Vector
      • Text_Vector

Figure 2: Values in the selected field for the option Apply to

  • Source Color [3] – enter the CMYK color value of the texts, vectors or texts and vectors that should be redyed.
  • Tolerance [4] enter the desired tolerance for each color value. By entering a tolerance, not only is the exact color value determined, but the entered tolerance is also taken into account.
For example: If the color value 10/20/40/0 is searched for and a tolerance of 1% is entered, the color values 9/19/39/0 and 11/21/41/1 will also be included. Since inaccuracies in color conversion can always occur, a small tolerance is useful. For Variable Content [8], select the desired placeholder - database field or user-defined field - from which the value for the respective tolerance should be retrieved.
  • Target Color [5] – enter the CMYK color value that the selected objects should subsequently have.
  • Include intermediate color values [6] – when this option is selected, all tonal values of the searched CMYK value are included.

3.2. Before/After

To experiment with this Fixup, refer to the sample file "Sample_CMYK_Redye.pdf". The sample file has a size of 300 x 300 mm. The design consists of vector objects and a text line that have been created in different CMYK colors.

After applying the Fixup, the file »Sample_CMYK_Redye_End.pdf« is created. All objects that were previously colored in magenta (0/100/0/0) were redyed to cyan (100/0/0/0).
