3.3 Checks regarding Size

Updated on

In this article, you will learn

  • which Checks are available in Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates with regards to Sizes, and
  • which solutions are provided to fix the detected issues.

1. Introduction

When print files are uploaded to the Workflow, the documents are checked using Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates to identify any errors or warnings at an early stage in the production process. These errors and warnings can be displayed on the corresponding page within the Workflow and provided to the customer as a PDF report for further clarification.

The Preflight check of the print file is based on the activated checks and the severity levels defined for each individual check Error, Warning, or Info.

2. Available Checks for Sizes

To take full advantage of a Check-in Preflight and Fixup Template, these templates must first be created. A template essentially consists of Checks and Fixups. Currently, more than 58 Checks are available in the Workflow. To maintain clarity, the individual Checks have been divided into different categories.

This article provides a detailed description of all checks assigned to the category Sizes.

2.1. Page size and/or orientation not equal

Category: Page

Description: This Check verifies whether all pages in a multipage print file have the same page size and orientation. Variations in size and orientation can lead to undesired results during further processing – such as when applying Fixups or Imposition.

Solution: 'For minor differences between the individual pages, the print file can be adjusted afterward using the Fixup «Set Page Boxes» to unify all pages. In case of significant differences, the multipage document can be split into individual Print Items, allowing the desired Page Boxes and rotations to be applied separately.

2.2. Size Check

Category: Object, Page Content

Description: This check verifies the dimensions of the selected Page Box based on the entered Width and Height values. An additional tolerance can be taken into account. If the page orientation is irrelevant, the option Ignore orientation can also be activated to check pages that are in different orientations.

Solution: If the print file does not have the correct size, this can be adjusted using one of the following Fixups «Scale Page Content Absolute», «Scale Page Content by Percentage», or «Scale Page Content – Width and Height» to correct the file. In some cases, it may also be helpful to create a Bleed using the Fixups «Create Bleed by Mirroring» or «Create Bleed on Irregular Shape».
