In this article, you will learn
- which additional Fixups are available in Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates, and
- for which actions these Fixups are intended.
1. Introduction
When print files are uploaded to the Workflow, the documents are checked using Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates, partially corrected, and thereby brought into a normalized state. Normalizing print data is therefore a key step in prepress, as it saves time, reduces errors, and automates part of the process.
Not all Fixups are available in a Check-in Preflight and Fixup Template
Within the Workflow, a clear distinction is made between normalizing print data and preparing print data for printing. The normalization step brings the print data to a consistent standard for data preparation. The corresponding data preparation for production is initiated at a later stage by applying individual Fixups or Fixup Chains.
2. Other Available Fixups
To take full advantage of Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates, these templates must first be created. A template essentially consists of Checks and Fixups. Currently, more than 44 Fixups are available in the Workflow. To maintain clarity, the individual Fixups have been organized into various categories.
This article provides a detailed description of all Fixups that cannot be clearly assigned to a specific category.
2.1. Remove signatures
Category: Page Content
Description: This Fixup removes signatures from the document, optionally preserving the visual appearance of the associated objects if desired.
Use Case: This Fixup is used to remove signatures because visible signatures cannot be rendered during output.

2.2. Set initial view (if missing)
Category: Page Content
Description: This Fixup determines how the PDF is displayed upon opening the file is opened in Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader. When activated, the document is fit to the window and displayed by default with the sidebar open.
Use Case: If PDF files in the Workflow need to be regularly displayed in Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader, this Fixup helps standardize the Workflow by ensuring the display always opens the same zoom level in Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader.

2.3. Substitute characters using «notdef glyph» with space characters
Category: Font, Text
Description: This Fixup uses the .notdef
glyph when no valid glyph can be found and should not be directly referenced. Some PDF-based ISO standards prohibit such direct references. This Fixup removes the .notdef glyphs without altering the appearance of the page.
Use Case: In most cases where the «notdef glyph» is used, spaces are replaced by this glyph. To create PDF/X-compliant PDF files, removing referenced «notdef glyphs» is required.
