In this article, you will learn
- how the Measurement Template Chart is printed for the individual step,
- which settings can be configured during this process,
- which steps are required to complete the process.
1. Introduction
The Print sub-step has an identical structure in every step of the Profiling Project that includes this sub-step. Only the Measurement Template Chart used differs – it is automatically generated for the respective step when the Profiling Project is created. The chart size and color patch size are derived from the saved project parameters – color configuration, measurement device, and aperture size.
The purpose of this sub-step is to configure the Measurement Template Chart correctly, position it on the imposed sheet, and transfer it to the printer. The chart is then printed on the reference substrate defined in the profiling project and forms the basis for the next sub-step of the respective step.
Print Sub-Step
The purpose of the printed Chart in the respective step, and whether the sub-step is optional, is described in the introductory article of that step for example, Creating a Linearization. Note that the name of the Print Measurement Template Chart dialog is extended with the name of the respective step for example, Print Measurement Template Chart – Linearization.
2. Settings Options
The Print Measurement Template Chart dialog is divided into two areas:
- Preview of the Measurement Template Chart – this area displays a preview of the imposition of the chart to be printed. The chart can be moved and zoomed within the preview area. In addition, an overview of the configured settings is displayed in this area.
- Settings Area – this area provides access to all settings required for printing the Measurement Template Chart.

Following options are available in the Print Measurement Template Chart dialog in the Preview of the Measurement Template Chart area:
- Zoom Tool
(Z)[2] – when selecting the Zoom tool, the mouse pointer changes to a magnifying glass with a "+" symbol inside it. If you additionally hold down thealtoroptionkey, the magnifying glass is displayed with a "–" symbol. This allows you to zoom in and out of the chart. - Hand Tool
(G)[1] – this tool allows you to move the Print Item within the display window by clicking and dragging the mouse. It is particularly useful in combination with the Zoom tool. - Fit to Width
(W)[3] – automatically zooms the view to fit the width of the Imposition Area. Please note that selecting this tool automatically adjusts the zoom level to the width. - Fit to Height
(H)[4] – automatically zooms the view to fit the height of the Imposition Area. Please note that selecting this tool automatically adjusts the zoom level to the height. - Preview Area [5] – this area displays a preview of the imposition of the charts to be printed.
- Information Area [6] – this area provides a consolidated overview of general imposition information – Number Pages, Size, and Columns x Rows – as well as information abut the Measurement Template Chart – Number Pages, Color Patches, Page Size, Columns x Rows, Patch Size, and Quality.

The following settings options are available in the Print Measurement Template Chart dialog in the Settings Area:
- Description on the Measurement Template Chart [7] – this option allows you to define information that is displayed in the footer of the printed chart. The description can be entered manually or generated using Placeholders [8]. The placeholders are automatically replaced with the corresponding information.
- Imposition Layout [9] – select the arrangement of the charts on the Imposition Sheet. The following options are available:
- By Column – the individual pages of the Measurement Template Chart are arranged from top to bottom, column by column.
- By Row – the individual pages of the Measurement Template Chart are arranged from left to right, row by row.
- Fill up Impose Sheet [10] – enable this option to fill the unused area of the Imposition Sheet with repeated instances of the Measurement Template Chart. If this option is disabled, only one complete set of the Measurement Template Chart is imposed.
- Impose Sheet Size [11] – select how the size of the Imposition Sheet is determined. The following options are available:
- Use Substrate Definition – the dimensions are automatically derived from the substrate definition selected in the profiling project. If required, another available definition can be selected from the Substrate Definition [12] dropdown menu.
- Custom – the Width and Height of the Imposition Sheet are entered manually. The Trim [13] option allows the Imposition Sheet to be cropped to match the size of the placed chart in the selected dimension.
2.1. Additional Options in Expert Mode
In the Print Measurement Template Chart dialog, Expert Mode [14] can be enabled. This displays additional options in the Settings Area of the dialog as well as an additional tab. As the name suggests, this option is intended for expert users who require more control. However, all settings required for printing the measurement charts are already available in Standard Mode.

General Tab
The following additional options are available in the General tab when Expert Mode is enabled:
- Measurement Template Chart [15] – use this dropdown menu to select an existing Measurement Template Chart. By default, the chart that was automatically created when the profiling project was created is used. Using Add [16], a new Custom Measurement Template Chart for the selected color configuration and measurement device can be created directly within the dialog. The created chart is then listed under the menu item Color > Measurement Template Charts. The process and available parameters are described in detail in the article Create and Manage Measurement Template Charts.
- Horizontal Alignment [18] – defines whether the chart is aligned left, centered, or right on the Impose Sheet.
- Vertical Alignment [17] – defines whether the chart is aligned at the top, center, or bottom of the Impose Sheet.
- Horizontal and Vertical Alignment – has no effect if the Trim options for Width and Height are enabled.
- Grid Settings [19] – allows you to define the number of columns and rows used to arrange the chart pages on the Impose Sheet. With the Auto option, the number of columns and rows is determined dynamically.
- Spacing [20] – defines the horizontal and vertical distance between the individual chart pages in millimeters.
- Rotate [21] – defines the orientation of the chart pages on the Impose Sheet in 90° increments. The following options are available:

Advanced Tab
The following additional options are available in the Advanced tab when Expert Mode is enabled:
- Destination [22] – defines the destination folder on the printer to which the print data is transferred. The list contains all destination folders configured for the selected printer. In practice, it is recommended to use a dedicated destination folder for profiling in order to ensure a clear separation from regular production jobs on the printer.
- Mirror [23] – defines whether the chart should be mirrored horizontally and/or vertically during rendering. The following options are available:
- Horizontal – mirrors the charts along the horizontal axis.
- Vertical – mirrors the charts along the vertical axis.
- Create Dieline [24] – use the dropdown menu to select the desired Technical Color that is used to create the Dieline.
- Cutter [25] – use the dropdown menu to select the desired cutter device used to cut the imposed sheet.
- Parameter Set [26] – select the desired parameter set from the dropdown menu to define the settings used for the cutting process and the destination directory to which the cut file will be transferred.
- Safety Zone [27] – if required, define the safety zone for the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right edges. Use this option to prevent Measurement Template Charts from being printed too close to the edge of the printing plate. This helps avoid known image quality issues, such as edge blurring, and provides better control over the start position in the feeding direction.
