Conception and User Interface

Updated on

In this article, you will learn

  • what a Profiling Project is,
  • which steps can be performed within a Profiling Project, and
  • how the user interface is structured.

1. Introduction

For printing systems, it is crucial to be familiar with the exact properties of color reproduction for the used substrates and the used print configuration and to store these values. Only then are all advantages for optimal use and direct control of the printing system given from within the application. The project for recording the color reproduction properties is called a Profiling Project.

A profiling project can contain the following information:

  • A Color Policy describing the color gamut of the combination of Printer, Print Configuration, Color Configuration, and selected Substrate.
  • One or more Color Policies describing the color gamut of the machine/substrate combination with different separation settings.
  • One or more Color Policies describing the color gamut of the machine/substrate combination for different color configurations within a print system or across multiple print systems.
  • One or more Color Policies describing the color gamut of the machine/substrate combination with different substrate properties.
  • One or more Color Policies describing the color gamut of the machine/substrate combination with matching profiles for other print systems.

2. User Interface

Profiling Projects are available in Color > Profiling Projects. Opening this menu item displays the list of available profiling projects.

2.1. List View

The list view of the menu item Color > Profiling Projects consists of 5 sections:

  • Header bar [2] – allows you to quickly identify which menu item is currently selected. The display of breadcrumbs [1] can optionally be enabled or disabled in the system settings.
  • Filter and search bar [3] – allows you to filter, search, and sort the list of profiling projects.
  • Action bar [4] – allows you to execute actions for selected profiling projects, create a new profiling project, and customize the list view to your workflow.
  • Pagination with list display limit [6] – allows you to limit the list display to a specific number of records and navigate between individual pages of the list view.
  • List [5] – contains the currently filtered profiling projects.

    • Standard: searches for the entered characters regardless of whether additional characters precede or follow them.
    • Exact: searches for the exact characters entered, with no additional characters before or after. Wildcards such as "%" and "_" can also be used for more specific searches.

2.3. Action Bar

The action bar contains all commands that can be applied to selected list entries, as well as the command for creating a new list entry. Some of these commands can also be applied to multiple selected entries. The following actions are available:

Figure 3: The action bar and pagination for the Color > Profiling Projects menu

The following commands and functions are available in the action bar:

  • Add [15] – create a new profiling project.
  • Edit [16] – edit the selected profiling project, for example, to adjust the name. It is not possible to edit multiple profiling projects simultaneously.
  • Delete [17] – delete the selected profiling project(s). This action cannot be undone. Before deleting, create a backup by exporting the entire profiling project.

  • More functions [19] – access the following functions:
    • Assign Tags – opens the dialog for adding and creating tags for profiling projects.
    • Import – opens the dialog for importing a previously exported profiling project. During import, mappings may need to be performed, as internal IDs and names of individual units can differ between systems.
    • Export – exports the entire profiling project, including all associated calculated profiles and measurement data.
    • Copy GUID to Clipboard – copies the GUID to the clipboard to search for this unique number in other systems.
    • Display Options – define which information from a profiling project is shown in the list. The available information is described below.
  • Quick filter [20] – filter by profiling projects with the status Production Ready and Created.
  • Select all / Clear selection [21] – activating this function selects or deselects all entries in the list. The number of currently selected records is shown as a number.

Display Options – "Filter Options" Tab

In the Filter Options tab, show or hide options for the filter and search bar, and control the display of labels. The following options are available in this tab:
