In this article, you will learn
- when offline licensing is required,
- what the offline lifespan is, and
- how to proceed with offline licensing.
1. Background Knowledge
The licensing of the application is performed by default via online activation. The activation of the license can be carried out either online or offline through the UA Server.
After successful activation, the workstation can be disconnected from the network and operated in the desired secure environment for at least 30 days. Within this 30-day period, the authorization server must must be accessible to the Workflow at least once in order to either:
- automatically import an updated license, or
- manually import a new license.
Functionality of the Workflow after 30 days
Note that if the application cannot reach the authorization server after 30 days, the functionality of the application will be suspended. Without activating the license or importing an updated license, the application can no longer be operated.
2. Offline Lifespan
The duration for which the application remains functional without importing an updated license is defined by the Offline Lifespan. You can find this date [1] (Figure 1) at the bottom of the tab License in the dialog Information.
The application retrieves the current license from the License Server on a daily basis whenever the workstation (on which the application is installed) can reach the Authorization Server online. Once the license has been imported, the Offline Lifespan is updated accordingly. A short-term internet disruption will therefore have no affect on the operation of the application, as the current license will automatically be imported again once the connection is restored.
However, if an internet disruption or an inability to reach the Authorization Server persists for more than 30 days, offline licensing must be performed. A corresponding warning is displayed in the application as an error message after 20 days, indicating that the workstation has been unable to reach the Authorization Server during this period.
Monitoring the Licensing Status
We recommend that you periodically monitor the Offline Lifespan and ensure that the email address stored in the license remains accessible. Any changes regarding the email address, as well as licensing issues, can be reported directly to [email protected].
License extensions can only be obtained through the existing sales channel. Contact your sales organization responsible for the application!
3. Performing Offline Licensing
Offline licensing can be carried out very quickly. To do so, you need to complete four steps, either in the tab License of the dialog Information in the System Status or in the dialog License Information of the Login window. The following description refers to the dialog Information.
3.1. Step 1: Download Payload
- Log in to the Workflow using your name and password via the dialog login.
- In the dialog Information, select the tab License and scroll to the bottom of the dialog.
- Click Download Payload [2].

- The download is completed when the message [3] confirming that the Payload has been downloaded appears. The Payload, including the Maintenance Contract ID and the Download Date, are located in the download folder on your local computer.

3.2. Step 2: Upload Payload to UA Server
- On a computer connected to the internet, open a browser and navigate to the URL https://ua.wfc.durst-group.com.
- Move the Payload file from your local computer to the Drop Zone [4] in the browser.
- Once the file has been placed in the Drop Zone, the upload will start automatically.

3.3. Step 3: Download License
- After uploading the Payload, the current license will be available for download.
- Click Download License [5] to download the current license for the licensed product.
Figure 4: The Upload page for Payloads on the UA Server after the Payload has been uploaded

3.4. Step 4: Import License into the Workflow
- Copy the downloaded license to a directory on your network that is accessible from the workstation where the application is installed.
