In this article, you will learn
- which advantages the online activation offers,
- which ideal prerequisites must be met for the online activation,
- how to import a WCLID file into the Workflow, and
- how to complete the Activation of the license.
1. Introduction
In order to use the Workflow after installation, the license must be activated online as the final step. This step provides administrators with several advantages:
- No license hashing required – the hashing (i.e., linking the license to the used workstation) is performed automatically in the background.
- No manual license upload after an update – after installing an update, the corresponding product version of the license is automatically applied in the application.
- License information – enables a detailed view of which packages are licensed for the application.
- Adding functions – enables functions to be temporarily added for a defined period of time, without the need to to manually import a license at the start or end of that period.
- Providing important information – provides information regarding hotfixes and updates (only within your maintenance contract period). An automatic update is never installed automatically. The installation of updates is always the responsibility of the application administrator.
- License Transfer – enables the license to be transferred to a new hardware at any time. For more details, see the article Transferring the License.
2. Prerequisites
In order to import and activate a license, the following requirements must be met:
- The application has to be installed on the appropriate hardware. For installation instructions, refer to the article Installing the Application.
- The workstation must have internet access.
- You must have a WCLID file, which is provided to you when purchasing a license.
Information about the WCLID File
Each license is associated with a WCLID file. This file is not the actual license but rather the key to your license. It entitles you to automatically retrieve the license on any workstation.
The WCLID file does not contain any personal data. It includes only the following information:
- Hardware ID
- Maintenance Contract ID
- Private Key
- URL of the Authorization Server
- OEM Partner ID
Important: Store the WCLID file in a secure location. If the file falls into unauthorized hands, it can only be used in an attempt to transfer a license. However, a license transfer must always be approved by an authorized representative of your OEM partner.
3. Activating the License
After completing the installation of the application and importing the WCLID file during installation, follow these steps:
Step 1: Access the Login Page
- Open the Chrome Browse on the workstation and enter the following address http://127.0.0.1:8081/pms/ppd-pms/index.html#!/login.
- This will open the login page of the application. The application can be used for 30 days without activating the license.
Figure 1: The dialog Login

- Click the right arrow until you see the entry License Info.
- Then click License Info [1] to open the dialog License Info.
The following details can be viewed in this dialog:
- Package [2] – displays the licensed base package.
- Workstation ID [3] – serves as the unique identifier of the workstation. If you are requested to provide the Workstation ID, you can copy the full entry to the clipboard by clicking the icon [12].
- Workstation Status [4] – after installation, the license status is set to Install. The Workflow is therefore fully operational for 30 days according to the licensed packages. However, activation must be performed immediately!
- Product Version [5] – displays the installed version of the application.
- UA Server [6] – the status of the authorization server should switch to Online after installation. If the UA server is not reachable, this may be due to a blocked port in the firewall or because the workstation has no internet connection. In this case, the status will be displayed as Offline.
- Expiry Date [7] and Maintenance Expiry Date [8] – these fields are not available until the activation has been completed.
- Upload WCLID [9] – if the WCLID file changes, it can be uploaded manually here again.

Step 2: Activating the License
- As the license holder, you decide when the license activation should take place. Please note that it will no longer be possible to log in to the Workflow 30 days after initially importing the WCLID file! By then, the activation must be completed at the latest. To activate the application, click the button Activate License [11].
- In the dialog Activate License, you will be prompted to confirm the start of the agreed maintenance contract on the 1st of the following month. Click OK [12] to confirm the activation.

- After confirming the dialog, the successful activation [16] of the license is displayed, and the Workstation Status [13] is set to Active.
- Verify that the Expiry Date [14] and the Maintenance Expiry Date [15] match your order. This allows potential errors to be identified and corrected in time.
