1.1. New Features in the Workflow
The following new features are available in version 1.22.2 of $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW:
Impose Editor – In version 1.22.2, existing features have been expanded and improved:
- Shape Nesting – Vertical Repeats – In version 1.22.2, the Shape Nesting algorithm was enhanced to support the generation of vertical repeats in addition to horizontal repeats when arranging irregular shapes. In many cases, vertical repeats are required in combination with the "Offcut optimized" option to achieve the most space-efficient Impose. [PPDWF-13369] [PPDWF-13342]
- Step & Repeat – Trimming of Subsequent Pages – Starting with this version, trimming of the Impose for subsequent pages of a multipage Step & Repeat is also possible when the "Continuous Printing" option is not enabled. If Continuous Printing is enabled, all pages of a multipage Step & Repeat remain the same size. [PPDWF-13271]
- Bound Product – Restrictions and Notes – The following functionality has been introduced or restricted in the "Bound Product" impose mode:
- The multipage sequence of a multipage Print Item can no longer be changed.
- Individual pages of the Print Item cannot be deleted.
- In the "Print Item" tab a notification is displayed if the number of copies or the dimensions of the TrimBox differ between the pages. [PPDWF-12184] [PPDWF-11844]
- "Print Items" tab – Select a View – Starting from this version, users can choose between two display modes in the Print Items tab:
- List of all pages – displays all individual pages across all Print Items. Depending on the impose mode, the dimensions, scaling and number of copies can be edited for each page. This functionality is not available in the "Bound Product" impose mode.
- List of all Print Items – groups multipage Print Items as a single entry. Depending on the impose mode, the dimensions, scaling and number of copies can be edited for each page. This functionality is not available in the "Bound Product" impose mode. [PPDWF-11844]
- Marks "Bearer Bars" – In version 1.22.2 , the new Bearer Bars mark is provided. It allows Bearer Bars to be created for the left and right side edges of an Impose Sheet. This also enables the output of separations for conventional imposes via $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW. [PPDWF-12177] [PPDWF-13056] [PPDWF-13167] [PPDWF-13168]
- Color Control Stripes – GMI Verification – Starting with version 1.22.2, a
JSON filedescribing the GMI Color Control Stripe can be imported. The import can be performed for the Color Control Stripe mark – Process Colors and used for GMI Verification. [PPDWF-12244] - Marks "GMI Mark" – Starting with this version, the GMI Mark is available and required for GMI Verification. It is provided as a sheet mark: the distance to the Sheet and Artboard, Width, Height, and Stroke Width, can be configured. [PPDWF-13840]
Color Management – In version 1.22.2, a new feature is introduced in the Color menu under Profiling Projects, based on the GMG OpenColor Engine. This solution supports the complete management of color policies – from Pre-Linearization through Linearization and Ink Limit to Characterization. Please note that this feature is available in version 1.22.2 exclusively for beta customers with an enabled beta permission. The final release of this feature will be made available to all new customers with version 2.0.0. Existing customers can switch from the ColorLogic solution to the GMG implementation. Further information on how this process works will be provided upon the release in June 2026.
Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates – The following new features have been implemented in Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates in version 1.22.2:
- "Prepare Technical Spot Colors" Fixup – In this version, a new Fixup has been provided that automatically normalizes Technical Spot Colors in a standardized manner during the upload of print data. In this process, Technical Spot Colors are automatically extracted from DeviceN constructs, Technical Spot Colors set to "Overprint" and objects with a 0 % tint value of a Technical Color are removed. [PPDWF-11355] [PPDWF-12712] [PPDWF-12583] [PPDWF-12715] [PPDWF-11585]
- Upload and Normalization Settings – Checking Technical Spot Colors – In addition to the new Fixup, checks have been implemented that flag invalid Technical Spot Colors in in the Upload and Normalization settings in the "Preflight only (no correction)" check-in mode. Technical Spot Colors within DeviceN constructs, as well as knockout Technical Spot Colors with a tint value of 100 %, are reported as errors. [PPDWF-13007]
- Upload and Normalization Settings - New Error Messages with "Preflight only (no correction)" – In the "Preflight only" check-in mode, the following error messages are now displayed along with guidance for possible corrections:
- The MediaBox of the page is not set to 0/0.
- The Page is rotated using a rotation factor.
- Page size and/or orientation not equal.
- Dieline is defined by a rectangle instead of path elements.
- Technical Spot Color is used as a stroke color, set to knockout.
- Technical Colors present in DeviceN constructs [PPDWF-12624]
"Remove Empty Layers" Fixup disabled
Please note that the Remove Empty Layers Fixup is no longer applied in Check-in profiles as of version 1.22.2 due to a production-critical error in the underlying pdfToolbox version currently in use. The functionality is expected to be available again starting with version 2.1 of $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW. [PPDWF-14078]

From now on, this is no longer allowed; an error message is displayed when saving. [PPDWF-13834]
Production Configuration – "Export Imposition Report" Operation is being replaced – If the "Export Imposition Report" operation was used in a Production Configuration, it was incorrectly replaced with the "Export Mounting Instruction" operation when the configuration was edited again. This bug has been fixed. [PPDWF-13199]
Forwarded Automation Jobs – Batch Processing – Forwarded Automation Jobs that were intended to be processed as bundles were not handled as bundles in the forwarded Production Configuration during the "Create Impose" operation. The bundle is now preserved as a bundle in subsequent processing steps as well. This issue has been fixed. [PPDWF-13292]
"Create Impose with Auto Nesting" Operation – When the "Preserve Processing Sequence" option was enabled, no nestings were created. This bug has been fixed. [PPDWF-13427]
