Installing Updates for Versions Higher Than 1.19.0

Workflow versions 1.19.1, 1.19.2, 1.20.0, and all future versions can only be installed if Workflow version 1.19.0 (1080) or higher is already installed on the system beforehand. A direct update from an earlier version – such as 1.18.x, 1.17.x, or 1.16.x – is not possible without first updating to version 1.19.0 (1080)! This requirement is due to internal improvements in the migration logic introduced with version 1.19.0 (1080) or higher.

Important: Before installing an update, ensure that version 1.19.0. (1080) or higher is already installed on your system.

If you are updating from a Workflow version lower than 1.17.0, you must first update to version 1.17.0 and then proceed to version 1.19.0 (1080)!

Database Migration from Version 1.19.0

Starting with version 1.19.0, a database migration is required in addition to installing the update. Users have three options for performing the migration:

  1. Directly during the installation of 1.19.0 (recommended): The migration can be started automatically immediately after the installation setup process of version 1.19.0. Duration: Between 5 minutes and 5 hours, depending on the size of the database.
  2. Manually at a later time: If the migration is not performed during the setup, it can be executed manually at a later time (if option 1 was not used). To do this, execute the following command in the Windows command prompt (CMD):  ppdtc.exe --automigrate-pg16. This allows you to perform the migration flexibly at a later time of your choice.
  3. Automatically during an update to version 1.19.1 (or higher): If the migration is not carried out during the installation of 1.19.0 or manually afterwards, it will be performed automatically during the update to version 1.20.0 or higher.

Please note: In this case, the installation process may take significantly longer due to the delayed migration.

No More Upgrades Possible from Versions Older Than 1.12.0

Please note that with the release of version 1.20.0, upgrading from Workflow versions older than 1.20.0 (release date: March 31, 2022) is no longer supported!

  • Nesting – Optimal Length for Multipage Impositions – As in previous versions, Print Items that are larger than the optimal length of an Impose Sheet are allowed to overrun the optimal length of the sheet. Starting with version 1.20.0, the subsequent pages in a multipage Nesting are also imposed based on their optimal lengths. [PPDWF-9955]
  • Nesting – General Improvements – The following improvements have been implemented for Nesting in this version:
    • User Guidance During Optimization – During optimization, a progress bar is displayed for iteration steps and users can cancel the process of the optimization of a Nesting at any time. [PPDWF-9832] [PPDWF-9746]
    • Shape Nesting – Performance – Significant improvements have been made to the performance in Shape Nesting when calculating and opening optimized Nestings. [PPDWF-9744]
  • Perforation Line for Flaps – Starting with this version, the perforation line for flaps now includes a standard spacing of 3 pt between individual perforated lines. The length of each line varies depending on the width of the flap. [PPDWF-9995]
  • Shape Nesting – Placement Method for Cutter Devices – Starting with this version, users can now use the placement method «Fit to Object» for setting register marks along the Dieline or for placing Print Items with Pre-Angulation. [PPDWF-9865]

When activated, only Print Items assigned to the One-Up of the Die Cut are placed automatically when filling a Die Cut. [PPDWF-9356]
    • Marks and Captions «Per Row» and «Last Row» – These features – already known from the «Step & Repeat» Impose Mode – are now also available in the «Die Cut» Impose Mode. [PPDWF-9678]
  • «Step & Repeat» Impose Mode – New Features – The following new features have been implemented for the Step & Repeat Impose Mode:
    • Multipage Imposition – Strategy «Minimum Underproduction» – The strategy Minimum Underproduction, introduced in Release 1.19.2, has been improved in this version. When using this function, either a single-page or multipage Imposition is created. The Print Item with the lowest quantity is placed completely, while all other Print Items are slightly underproduced. On the last page of the Imposition, the maximum column length is determined by the Print Item with the lowest quantity. [PPDWF-9937]
    • Pre-Angulation – Optimization of Calculation – When using Pre-Angulation in a Step & Repeat, enhancements ensure correct spacing between Impose Sheets and proper evaluation of the option Remove Sheet Duplicates. [PPDWF-9743] [PPDWF-9485] [PPDWF-9475]
  • Barcode and Text Captions with Background – Starting with this version, the option Overprint is no longer available for Barcode Captions. The rendering of overprinting Text Captions now matched their appearance in the Impose Editor. [PPDWF-9864] [PPDWF-9863]
