1. Overview
Version 1.22.1 introduces several new user features in the Impose Editor, the new user interface, process automation, Die Cut management, Preflight and Data Preparation, and the API.
Below is a concise overview of all changes. An overview of New Features in Workflow, Improvements, and Fixed Bugs is available below. Detailed descriptions of the individual functions can be found in the linked Articles.

Installing Updates
Please note that updating from an older version to version 1.22.1, requires installing following versions:

Upgrades are no longer available for versions older than 1.14.2
Please note that with the release of version 1.22.1 (release date: March 31, 2026), upgrades from versions older than 1.14.2 of $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW (release date: March 31, 2023) will no longer be possible!

1.1. New Features in the Workflow
The following new features are available in version 1.22.1 of $PRODUCT_NAME_WORKFLOW:
Impose Editor – In version 1.22.1, existing features have been expanded and improved:
- Captions – New Placeholders for Multipage Print Items – Starting with this version, it is possible to add placeholders containing the page number and the total number of pages in a multipage Print Item as captions on an imposition. [PPDWF-12754]
- Color Control Stripes – Process Colors – Version 1.22.1 introduces the ability to select and configure color control stripes for Process Colors in a Sheet Template [PPDWF-12007]. Additionally, user can set a background color for the color control stripe and adjust the size of the color patches and the spacing between them [PPDWF-13016] [PPDWF-12745]. Another new feature in that respect is an ability to import and export user-defined lists of color patches [PPDWF-12675] [PPDWF-12932].
- Color Control Stripes – Spot Colors – implemented in version 1.22.0 option to generate a Color Control Stripe for Spot Colors has been adapted in the current version. It now matches the implementation of the Color Control Stripe for Process Colors. [PPDWF-12745] [PPDWF-12245]
- Sheet – Placement Logic for Marks – The placement logic for Marks has been adjusted for the Impose Sheet. This includes the following new features:
- Minimum Distance between Marks and Print Items – Starting with this version, users can set the minimum distance that Marks and Captions must maintain from the Artboard. [PPDWF-12744] [PPDWF-12401]
- Warning for Outdated Logic – Due to the change in the placement logic for marks in Sheet Templates, marks can be placed separately with horizontal or vertical alignment relative to the selected reference point. You may be prompted to migrate to the new logic when editing an existing Sheet Template. [PPDWF-12836]
- Step & Repeat – Position and Reference Point of Marks and Captions – Starting with this version, the Continuous Printing option is available in the Artboard tab in the Step & Repeat impose mode. The Continuous Printing option – previously known as Add Spacing – is therefore not a new feature. The Add Spacing option was simply moved from the Grid Settings section to the Settings section and renamed to Continuous Printing. [PPDWF-12756] [PPDWF-12402]
- Step & Repeat – Marks for Multipage Impositions – Starting with this version, marks (e.g., rectangle marks) are always in the same position on all subsequent pages of a multipage imposition. [PPDWF-12614]
- Bound Products – Change in Substrate Thickness – In version 1.22.1, a feature was added to the Impose Editor to quickly update or add the substrate thickness for a selected substrate. [PPDWF-12189]
- Captions – Dieline – In this version, the ability to set the Offset of the Dieline relative to the caption for all four sides – Top, Bottom, Left, and Right – has been added. [PPDWF-12815]
Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates – With version 1.22.1, the following improvement was implemented for Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates:
- Default Warnings – For the Check-in Preflight and Fixup Templates Workflow Default Preflight and Workflow Minimal Preflight, error and warning messages have been implemented in this version. A warning is shown whenever a multipage print file contains pages with different page orientations, or when the MediaBox is not in the origin for single-page or multipage print files. - Set Technical Colors to "Overprint" – A new Fixup has been implemented. It automatically sets existing Technical Colors in a file to "Overprint". [PPDWF-12583]
Managing and Using Die Cuts – Version 1.22.1 of the Die Cut Library includes three new features:
- Exporting and Importing One-Ups – Version 1.22.1 introduces the ability to export a One-Up from one system and then import it into another system. It is also possible to export and import metadata. When custom fields do not exist in the target system during import, an error message will be displayed. The import can proceed nevertheless. [PPDWF-12412]
- Exporting and Importing N-Ups –Version 1.22.1 also introduces the ability to export an N-Up from one system and then import the N-Up into another system. Thereby, both the associated One-Ups as well as the metadata for the One-Ups and N-Ups are exported and imported. In case custom fields do not exist in the target system during import, a corresponding error message will be displayed. It is nevertheless possible to proceed with the import. [PPDWF-12413]
- N-Ups – New Options for Ordering – This version provides eight options for determining the order in which a N-Up is filled. These include variations for horizontal and vertical ordering with zigzag and reverse arrangements. [PPDWF-11744]
Checks, Fixups, and Fixup Chains – As part of the development of version 1.22.1, a new Fixup – Apply Rotation Factor – was introduced.
- Fixup – "Apply Rotation Factor" – In version 1.22.1, the new Fixup Apply Rotation Factor was introduced to apply the existing rotation factor and then set it to 0.
Automation – Starting with version 1.19.0, users with the appropriate license have been able to create Automation Jobs. This allows them to define custom Production Configurations for the production of print products and automate their processing. Additional new features were introduced in version 1.22.1.
- Production Configuration – Variations – Version 1.22.1 introduces the ability to create variations for a Production Configuration by modifying some parameters in an Operation and then referring to them in automation. Subsequently, select the Variations of Production Configurations, which can then be selected in the Production Scheduler as well as when creating Automation Jobs after selecting the desired Production Configuration. It is also possible to edit or delete variations at a later time. [PPDWF-12813] [PPDWF-13043] [PPDWF-12992] [PPDWF-12996]
- Production Configuration – Export Job Ticket – In version 1.22.0, the ability to export a Job Ticket for a Production Configuration was added. This allows developers in the integration team to immediately begin building upon the available data. [PPDWF-12373]
- Operations – The following new features and improvements have been implemented in the context of operations:
- Operation "Export Imposition Report" – In this version, placeholders were added for the Comment field. [PPDWF-11764]
- Operation "Export Mounting Instructions" – This operation was newly added in this version and can be used to export Mounting Instructions for a tiling. [PPDWF-12139]
- Automation Job – Replacing a Print Item – In version 1.22.1, it is possible to replace the Print Item of an Automation Job, to e.g. replace a corrupted file. After replacement, the new Print Item runs through the entire Automation Job from the beginning. [PPDWF-11937] [PPDWF-13476]. Print Items in an Automation Job can be replaced in the List of Automation Jobs, within the History tab, both in Quick Print and in Batch Processing, as well as in the detail view for the Print Item in an Automation Job
- Setting the Impose Date – In this version, the user interface for setting an Impose Date for the Automation Job has been simplified. The ability to set the installation date in an Automation Job to a date earlier than today's date was prevented. Furthermore, redundant placeholders that made no sense were removed. - Visualization of Skipped Processing Steps – In this version, the display of process steps for Automation Jobs has been improved. Skipped process steps are displayed in a dimmed state so that users can clearly see which steps have been omitted from the Production Configuration. [PPDWF-12495]
- Production Automators – Adjusted Display – In version 1.22.1, the display in the Automation > Production Automators menu item has been improved by providing a clear table for the relevant information. [PPDWF-12612]
New User Interface – In version 1.22.1, the following features have been expanded or optimized in the new user interface:
- Approval Report Template – This version introduces the ability to upload a custom Approval Report via the new user interface. This feature is available under Administration > Settings > Reports > Approval Report Engine Settings. [PPDWF-11454]
- Tags – Access in Lists – In this version, users can access Tags more quickly within the user interface. From now on, the Tags function is available in the footer of each list entry for Articles, Print Items, Orders, and Production Jobs. [PPDWF-9754]
- Status Display – Long Name – In this version, a line break has been added to the status display for long labels. The line break ensures that the names remain fully readable. [PPDWF-13126]
- Dark Mode – In version 1.22.1, changes regarding improved display for dark mode were implemented in User Account > User Interface Appearance. These include: Print Items with a transparent background are displayed with a white background area in the preview, and the background area of the editor in the Die Cut Library is white. - List of Articles and Print Items – Display of Spot Colors – In this version, the display of the spot colors used in the footer of a list entry has been improved. Up to five spot colors are now displayed as color bubbles; additional spot colors are grouped in a separate bubble. [PPDWF-12452]
- Production Job Name – Create from Order – When creating separate Production Jobs from an Order containing multiple Print Items, only the system-wide placeholders are used from this version on. [PPDWF-12439]
- Output Configuration – Color Correction – In this version, the user guidance for creating and saving a template for color corrections has been revised. Modified values can be applied directly to the Production Job by clicking the button Apply to Production Job, or they can be adopted when creating a template. The option Include Spot Colors in Color Correction is also available when saving a color correction template. [PPDWF-12822] [PPDWF-12879] [PPDWF-12879]
- Print Item – "Protocol" Tab – Minor changes have been made in the Protocol tab for the steps Normalization Step – Fix and Preflight and Print Item Properties updated by User. [PPDWF-12885] [PPDWF-12894]
- Old User Interface – Discontinued Features – Starting with version 1.22.1, the following areas are available exclusively in the new user interface: Color > Spot Colors and Print Items detail view > Edit Spot Colors. [PPDWF-12986]
1.2. Improvements
In version 1.22.1, the following improvements to existing features were implemented:
- Spot Colors – Definition and Handling – In this version, the handling of Spot Colors has been revised. Starting with version 1.22.1, all spot colors are displayed correctly in the preview and processed as intended during download. The following spot color types are now available: Spot Colors, Output as Separations, Technical Colors, Hybrid Colors, and Non-printing Colors. [PPDWF-11205] [PPDWF-12583][PPDWF-12777]
- Download a PDF or an Imposition – Due to the new spot color types, the handling of spot colors when exporting an Imposition or a PDF has been adjusted. [PPDWF-12783] [PPDWF-12780]
- Spot Colors Types – Adjustment During Rendering – Version 1.22.1 includes an update that ensures hybrid colors and non-printing colors are rendered correctly when rendering a file, taking into account their type and overprint status. For example, when downloading a selected hybrid spot color, the excluded content of the hybrid colors is also taken into account. [PPDWF-12781] [PPDWF-12779] [PPDWF-12557]
- Adjustment to the Print Item Detail View – Due to the new spot color types, the Print Item detail view has been revised in this version. The settings areas Spot Colors and Additional Spot Colors, as well as the selection As Additional Spot Color with the processes Set as Non-Printing Color and Create Spot Color as System-Wide Hybrid Color, have been updated. - Small Improvements – The following small improvements have been implemented in this version:
- Spot Color Library – In the Library tab under Color > Spot Colors, three minor improvements were made in version 1.22.1:
- Creating and Editing a Spot Color Library – In version 1.22.1, the ability to manually create a Spot Color Library was introduced. This allows the user to define their own color values. The name of the Spot Color Library can also be changed later. [PPDWF-12200] [PPDWF-12199]
- Creating a Spot Color – The ability to manually create a spot color within a spot color library has also been added. Choose between the color modes CMYK, LAB, and RGB. [PPDWF-12201]
- Deleting a Spot Color – This version includes the option to delete individual spot colors from the spot color library. [PPDWF-12897]
- Print Item Editor – "Barcode / QR Code" Tab – Starting with version 1.22.1, the Print Item Editor provides the option to remove a barcode from the Print Item. [PPDWF-11313]
- Substrate – Entering the Substrate Thickness – Starting with this version, enter the desired value in the desired unit for the Substrate Thickness. The entered value is automatically converted to μm. [PPDWF-12719]
- Substrate Definition – Set as Default – Starting with this version, the first Substrate Definition created for a Substrate is set to default. [PPDWF-12835]
- Device Connector – Adding Printers – In version 1.22.1, a feature for automatically setting the Printer Name as the name of the Print Configuration in Device Connector was added. [PPDWF-12763]
- Routines – Deactivating Operations – In this version, it is possible to disable an individual operation of a routine under Administration > Routines. To deactivate an operation there's a dedicated button available in the Configuration of the Execution settings area. [PPDWF-12416] [PPDWF-13029]
- DitherMixArray – Uploading – In version 1.22.1, a feature was added so that when uploading a DitherMixArray, the Dither Mode and the value for Ink Level are automatically read out. This features simplifies the input process. [PPDWF-12320]
- Adding a Print Configuration – Starting with this version, only valid entries can be made when creating a print configuration. The Ink Gradations and DitherMixArray fields are grayed out for print configurations with a color depth of 1, as they do not make sense in this context. [PPDWF-12637]
- Measurement Devices – Primary Key – Starting with version 1.22.1, the primary key is also displayed for measurement devices under Color > Verification > Verification Jobs > Measure > Measurement Devices. [PPDWF-13052]
- "Activities Dialog" – Filter – In this version, the filter options Empty Trash under Activities > Filter have been adjusted. [PPDWF-13044]
- Imposition Report for "Bound Products" – In this version, the option to generate an imposition report for Bound Products has been removed. For Production Configurations, a warning is displayed when attempting to save the "Export Imposition Report" operation with the "Bound Product" Impose Mode. [PPDWF-12740]
- Measurement Devices – General Improvements – In this version, minor improvements have been made to Measurement Devices regarding parameters, missing translations, the arrangement of options, the description, as well as the order of the observer angles and the change in the order of the Density selection menu. - Inks – Updated List – In version 1.22.1, the list of current ink information has been updated. [PPDWF-13055]
- Spot Color Library – In the Library tab under Color > Spot Colors, three minor improvements were made in version 1.22.1:
2. Fixed Bugs
The following bugs have been fixed in this release:
2.1. Main Application
Incorrect Measurement – i1Pro 3 Plus Devices – Incorrect results could occur when measuring using transmitted light. The issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-5086] [PPDWF-8237]
API v1 – Subscriptions – In some cases, an error might have occurred when creating a subscription via the API v1. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-12338]
Preview – Quick Print and Batch Processing – Previews could not be generated for very large files, which could cause the system to crash. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-13532]
Ink Cost Calculation – DCF Jobs in Production Jobs – Ink costs for a Production Job on a TAU printer were neither calculated nor displayed when the DCF output format was selected. The feature was only available for the TIFF output format. This issue has been resolved – ink costs can now be calculated and displayed for the DCF output format as well. [PPDWF-13133]
Edit Production Job – In the Edit Production Job dialog, a previously selected simulation – Relative Colorimetric – was not displayed in the output configuration. This display error has been fixed by updating the dialog. [PPDWF-13353]
Change status for multiple Articles/Print Items – When the Change Status menu option was selected for multiple Articles/Print Items, the status could be set, but when saving, a uniform status was incorrectly applied to all selected Articles/Print Items. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-13286]
Lead-In and Lead-Out – Hybrid Colors – Hybrid colors could not be selected when configuring the output for Lead-In and Lead-Out. This issue has been resolved hybrid colors are now available there as well. [PPDWF-12843]
Print Item Editor – Page Boxes – Previously, no warning was displayed when a PDF file with invalid page box arrangement was opened in the Print Item Editor. This behavior has been fixed. From now on, a warning will always be displayed when page boxes are arranged incorrectly. [PPDWF-12718]
2.2. Impose Editor
Flaps for Captions – Chinese Characters – When using Chinese characters, the flap might not have been drawn exactly around the caption, causing the caption to be cut off. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-12406]
Nesting – Grouping – Grouping Print Items in a Nesting caused an error when the option "Allow in exceptional cases" was enabled. This error has been identified and fixed. [PPDWF-12773]
Step & Repeat – Vertical Offset – In some cases, an offset in the range of 1% to 20% could not be entered in the settings area, and an error was displayed. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-12834]
Manual Mode – Save – After adding graphic objects (rectangle, line, etc.) to an already saved imposition in "Manual" impose mode, the imposition could be closed without a prompting the user to save the dialog. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-12711]
Perforation for Flap – When the option "Add Perforation" was enabled while creating a flap in Finishing > Dielines > Include Captions, the perforation at the edge would sometimes round off inaccurately. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-12704]
Changing the Impose Mode An error was displayed when switching from Nesting to Manual impose mode. This error has been fixed. [PPDWF-12680]
Vision Hybrid Mark – Additional Process Colors – Additional Process Colors were generated twice in the circular logo. This issue has been resolved. [PPDWF-12672]
3. Hotfixes
The name of the first version is DW Build 1.22.1 (1392). No hotfixes have been released for this version yet.
