Measuring the Measurement Template Chart – Setting Options

  • how the Measurement Template Chart is measured,
  • which settings can be configured during this process, and
  • which steps are required to complete the process.

1. Introduction

The Measure substep is structured identically in all steps of the Profiling Project in which a measurement template chart is measured. Only the chart being measured differs in each case. Measuring is – after Printing – the second substep of the respective step. In this substep, the previously printed chart is measured page by page using the measurement device stored in the Profiling Project.

The measured values obtained in this way are compared with the reference values of the chart and form the basis for the subsequent substeps for example, the creation of the respective profile.

2. Settings Options

The Measure dialog is divided in two essential areas:

  • Measurement Template Chart Preview – this area displays a preview of the chart to be measured. Before measurement, only the left triangles representing the reference values [8] are displayed. After measurement, the measured values are compared with the reference values represented by the right triangle [9]. This allows immediate identification of whether the correct chart has been used or whether a measurement error has occurred.
    When moving the mouse over a color patch, the patch address and the corresponding DeviceN values are displayed. In addition, both the reference and measured Lab values are shown. The preview can also be used for an additional visual check.
  • Measurement Area – this area lists the configured measurements and is used to start the measurement process.

The following information and options are available in the Measure dialog:

  • Measurement Information [1] – this section provides information about the measurement, including the Measurement Template Chart name, the selected measurement device, and the parameter set used.
  • Preview Area [2] – this area displays a preview of the chart to be measured. To detect potential measurement errors, the measured values are compared with the reference values, which serve as an approximate color reference.
  • Pages measured [3] – indicates the number of pages contained in the Measurement Template Chart. Clicking a page number loads the preview of the corresponding page and selects it for the measurement process. Once the measurement of a page has been completed, the corresponding page number is highlighted in green.
  • Reset Measurement Data [4] – deletes all measurements and completely reset the step.
  • Measurement [5] – displays the current measurement, its status, as well as the timestamp and username. The following options are available for each measured page:
    • Delete Measurement Data [7] – deletes the measurement of the selected page.
    • Download [6] – download the measurement of the selected page.
  • Measure Page "x" [10] – starts the measurement process for the currently selected page. The information is transmitted to the connected measurement device. During the measurement process, the measured color values for the corresponding patch are displayed. Once the measurement of the page has been completed, the system automatically switches to the next page of the chart. When all pages have been measured, the substep is completed.

Number of Pages of a Measurement Template Chart

The number of pages depends on the printer's color configuration, selected aperture setting of the measurement device, profile quality level, as well as the selected configured overprinting rules. These rules allow elimination of unnecessary combinations from a Measurement Template Chart.
