Find out in this article,
- the length of the trial period,
- how to purchase a license immediately or after the trial period has expired and,
- how to upload the license to the PDF Editor.
1. Trial Period
After installing the application, the PDF Editor can be used on your system free of charge for 30 days. The full range of functions is available - including the connection to Durst Workflow and OnPoint – so you can fully experience the application and its functions.
Each time after starting the application, you will be informed that the test license will expire in a few days. During the trial period of 30 days, you will be confronted with the following dialog.
Figure 1: Dialog during and after the test period
- Select license file [1] - opens the dialog for uploading the license file (.WCLID).
- Send e-mail [2] - opens the e-mail application installed on the system and automatically creates an e-mail with the corresponding license request.
- Cancel [3] - closes the dialog and the application automatically when the test period has expired. You can continue working with the PDF Editor if the trial period has not expired.
Trial period of 30 days
Please note that the trial period of 30 days per hardware is one time only. If you wish to test the PDF Editor again at a later date, this is no longer possible on this system.
2. Licensing
The PDF Editor is available for subscription. The minimum term after a trial period of 30 days is 12 months. After 12 months, the license expires automatically but can be renewed. One license must be purchased per device. It's possible to transfer the license to another system at any time.
2.1. Request License File
Until an online ordering system is available, licenses must still be requested by e-mail.
- Durst customers: Send the order to [email protected]. Billing will be done directly through your sales channel at Durst.
- All other customers: Send the order to [email protected]. The invoice will be issued directly by Prepress Digital - Softwareentwicklung GmbH.
2.2. Upload and activate the License
When ordering a license, the customer receives a license key in the form of a WCLID file. This WCLID file needs to be uploaded to activate the license. By uploading, the license is automatically activated online and the license for the PDF Editor is transferred to the system.
Proceed as follows to import and activate the license:
- Start the PDF Editor.
- In case the trial period has already expired, click Upload WCLID [1] (Figure 1) in the appearing dialog (see Figure 1). If you have already opened the application, select the command Help > License Information...
Figure 2: The License Info on macOS
- In the opened dialog click Upload WCLID [4] and select the WCLID file that has been sent to you.
- Then press OK [5]. This establishes contact with the online license server, activates the license, and transfers the activated license to your system.
- Well done!
Keep the WCLID file
The WCLID file is your key for activating the license on a computer. Keep this file, as you will need it again at the latest when transferring the license to a new computer.
Do not give the WCLID file to anyone else, as the PDF Editor can only be operated on one computer system.
3. Transfer license to another computer
If you want to transfer the license of the PDF Editor to another computer, proceed as follows:
- Install the latest version of PDF Editor on the new computer.
- Due to the initial installation, the PDF Editor will now run on two computers for at least 30 days.
- To transfer the license to the new computer, you only need to upload your WCLID file to the new computer. How to do this has already been described in the section Upload and activate the license.
- Once you have done this, you now have 5 days to inform us. Send a short message to [email protected] with the note to activate the license currently in installation mode.
4. Offline use
When your license is activated, it will be checked online each time you start the application. If your license is no longer valid, you will be notified. If the license server is unavailable when you start the application, there's no need to fret as the PDF Editor can continue to be operated for 30 days without contacting the online license server.
No connection to the online license server for more than 30 days
Please note that if the application cannot reach the online license server for more than 30 days, the service will be discontinued. You must therefore be online at least once a month and restart the application.
